4 Tips for Time Management & How I Fit Everything In

You might have seen in my life lately or my going back to uni post that things have been a bit hectic lately and I think they will be staying that way. Over the past couple of months, I have been learning to juggle a full time job, studying for my masters, running my blog and just life in general. I have tried so hard to focus on maximising my time and being really productive. I constantly have to do lists on the go and I want nothing more than to tick everything off. I certainly haven’t mastered being productive just yet, because I think there is always room for improvement, but I wanted to share a few tips that work for me

A Diary – So I might sound like a granny or a school teacher with their homework planners, but having a diary has made a massive difference. I can write down everything that needs doing from events/appointments, uni work, errands, jobs, blog post ideas or anything else I don’t want to forget. By having it all written down I can easily see which days have room to fit in more things or fit in some ‘me time’. It doesn’t matter if it’s written in a diary, notebook or on your laptop or phone. By writing everything down, my head instantly feels less cluttered and I can focus on what needs doing. I personally love a super cute diary that I can write it all in. I have already started looking for my 2017 one and here are some of my favourites so far here and here.

Plan, Plan, Plan – This ties in perfectly with the diary, I like to break everything down into manageable pieces and plan it out as much as possible. That way when I have loads to do, it doesn’t seem so overwhelming. For example, I might break down my uni work for the week and split it across 5 or 6 days. If I have errands to run or jobs to do, I also like to split them over a few days of the week too. When I plan everything out I prioritise the most important tasks, so I know I need to tackle them first. I also like to schedule in my ‘me’ time or a day off just to do what I want to do shopping, eating cake, sitting in my pjs ya know what ever I fancy.

Take breaks – This is so important, but one of the hardest things to do. When I am ploughing through my to do list I find it so hard to stop and take a break. If I don’t I burn out, get tired and then can’t be bothered to do anything. So although it might be hard to do, I know in the long run it means I will be more productive. I’ve become the type of person that always likes to be doing something, so even while having a break I like to paint my nails, put a face mask on, grab a cup of tea and biscuit or just catch up on social media.

Mindset – Having the right mindset to tackle your to do list is my most important tip. I will admit this is where I still really struggle. I sometimes look at everything planned out in front of me, feel completely overwhelmed and instantly think I will never fit all that in and that’s where it all goes downhill. Telling yourself that you can do it and believing in yourself is the perfect way to motivate yourself to get everything done. By not stressing myself out with how long my to do lists are, I can prevent any mid-week meltdowns.

Lastly just remember that if you don’t get something done it’s not the end of the world. Try re-arranging plans and rescheduling it for another day. Don’t give up and remember that you can do anything!

A good post. Thank you for the advice. I do need to start doing some of these. I often find myself wanting to achieve a lot of things but not actually doing anything to reach these goals. So sometimes I feel like I just need to sit down and write my goals and a to-do list. 🙂 x

Thank you! That is such a good idea, I love writing everything down. Plus it’s a great feeling to tick it off the list once you achieve it.

Good advice 🙂 I kind of the same thing, but sometimes it’s hard to stick through it.

  7. I so need to get my shit together in terms of this. Especially doing Blogmas this year. Some really good tips here Laura – I treated myself to the most beautiful Kate Spade planner in August hoping this would help me out but I just keep neglecting it. I’m going to really try harder with it because using a planner helps me so much and then there’s the fact that it’s Kate Spade and deserves all the love! Thanks for the tips.
