In the past few months I have been asked so many times why I started blogging. Whether it’s by friends, other bloggers, PR staff or someone that I’ve just met, I always struggle to give them a good answer. Not because I don’t have one (trust me I have really mulled this one over lately), but because I can’t seem to fit all my reasons, ideas, plans and just general love for blogging into a nice little 30 second blurb. I could probably spend hours talking about blogging and to be honest sometimes I do, but today I thought I would share the reason why I started blogging.
So let’s start by rewinding a few years.
I had got to a point where life had taken over. I finished university and ploughed all my time into getting a career, running a house on my own and just general boring (but necessary) life stuff. I realised very quickly that I had lost all of my hobbies and interests and had nothing to break up the work life balance. It was boring, draining and quite frankly just an unhappy place to be.
Around about the same time, I discovered the blogging world. I would sit in bed at night reading so many different blogs and would be up till silly o’clock absolutely fascinated by their photography, writing and creativity. For months I did this and was finding myself more and more obsessed and inspired by the blogging world. Late one night, it suddenly dawned on me that maybe I could do this. Of course, I then went through stages of telling myself that I wasn’t creative enough, that I didn’t really have the time and that no one would want to read it and just every other excuse under the sun that you could think of. You name it – I thought it.
Finally I dismissed all the excuses and decided to take the leap…
I wanted to join the blogging community, make new friends and have my own little corner on the internet to share all my favourite things. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy and I was going to have learn loads of new skills, but that was the challenge I needed. Since then I have struggled and taken breaks, but I’ve also had some amazing opportunities, met the best people and loved connecting with all of you.
So, why do I want to blog (other than the personal reasons and benefits above)? What do I want to use my blog for and what do I want to blog about?
Not only do I want to share all my favourite things with you from makeup, to recipes, to places to explore, but I also want it to be a place that my readers can come and relate to someone. I want it to be raw and personal, creative and fun as well as helpful and inspiring. After 2 years, I feel like I have learnt so many snippets of information along the way (a lot of things I wish I had known earlier) that I want to share with you; both blogging and life related.
So from now on you will see a new blogging tab in the navigation bar and it’s going to be filled with all things blog related. I am hoping that in time it will become a little blogger library full of tips and tricks, tools, templates, resources and blogging inspiration. Hopefully it will be helpful; whether you learn something from it or maybe you can just relate to it. I am sure I am not the only blogger on the planet who has struggled with one thing or another over the past couple of years. You will also see the lifestyle section being updated with more organisational tips and tricks, inspirational content and anything that motivates and helps us live our lives to the fullest. Don’t worry, I will still be sharing my favourite skincare purchases, new shoes and suggestions on the best places to explore and eat; after all this is a lifestyle and beauty blog! At the end of the day my lifestyle and my blog are continuously evolving and I want to take you all on the journey; hopefully helping and inspiring you along the way.
If you take anything from this post, I want you to know that you can do anything you set your mind to! Whether it’s setting up a blog or taking on any kind of new challenge. Push all the fear and excuses to one side and just go for it! I did 2 years ago and I have never looked back, yet somehow, I feel like this is only the beginning!
