Taking Myself Outdoors

Being outdoors…

I’m not going to lie, looking back I don’t think I was really an outdoor-sy person when I was younger. It wasn’t that I wasn’t into anything active or didn’t like exercise; I did dance at school and loved every minute of it. It wasn’t that I didn’t like leaving the house; as I was always out with friends, working and just having fun, but I definitely wasn’t the type of person who gets up early on a Saturday morning to go out for a nice long walk. I wasn’t one of those ‘crazy’ people (clearly I was a little bit more judgmental back then though lol).

Now? I am definitely that crazy person!

I love being outdoors.

I love being in the fresh air and taking in the surroundings. I’ve got to the point where I really appreciate what’s practically on my doorstep whether is forestry, country parks or the beach; they each have something to offer. It’s not until I sat down to write this that I realized how hard it is to actually describe why I enjoy it so much. There is just something about being outside that helps me clear my head, re-focus all my thoughts and sort of pull myself together. Taking in all the fresh air and getting some gentle exercise also gives me so much more energy and motivation too. I’m very lucky in that where I live you can escape the rush of the roads and town and it’s almost silent and so peaceful. That being said I have also lived in places where it’s a lot busier and it’s nice to take a step back, separate yourself almost and just listen to the rush and hustle and bustle going on around you and not be caught up in it.

I am finding more recently it’s my simple answer for everything. If I am bored, fed up, lacking motivation, stressed, overwhelmed or have just sat around for that little bit too long – I go outside. It doesn’t matter the time of day, although the morning is my favourite especially at the weekends when its quiet and everyone is still sleeping. That being said, a Sunday afternoon or when I get home from work is just as good too! I also don’t mind if I have to go on my own either. Having company and someone to chat to is great, but I enjoy it just as much even if I am on my own. It’s like a form of ‘me time’ and basically I just like being outside.

It certainly didn’t happen overnight, it sort of grew on me. Even to the point that it’s only been the last few months that I’ve even enjoyed being out in the cold and miserable weather. Don’t get me wrong, you need to be wrapped up warm and have something cosy to come home to, but when I look outside the grey dull skies don’t even put me off anymore. I like exploring somewhere new if I can and taking little Mollie-Moo with me because she seems to love it as much as I do. Although she is still not 100% convinced on going out in the rain just yet.

It has taken me a while to realise how much I enjoy it and how good it’s been for me; so now I want to make the most of it. This year I want to get outside as much as possible, take in all the fresh air, wander around and explore lots of new places as well as all the places right on my doorstep. I cannot recommend it enough! So grab your coat and go, even if it’s just around the houses you live in or to a park near your house, just get outside in the fresh air and take it all in. If you don’t think it’s for you I completely get it – I used to feel that way too, but just give it a go and let the benefits slowly win you over because I promise you they will.

Such a great post! I need to try this as well. I don’t live near a beach but I definitely live near some parks so I should really take walks and get refreshed now and again. Great post 🙂

Thank you, I cannot recommend it enough! Parks are fantastic too, sometimes I even just wander around the houses where I live just to get out for a little bit and let Mollie wander around. 🙂 x

Those Joules wellies are the cutest ever! Makes me want to dig out my pair from back home!
I definitely need to get out more for walks and seeing more of Cardiff. I hardly know the place, other than the centre hahaha!

I do feel myself starting to crave a random walk every now and then, like this morning with my boyfriend but I also couldn’t wait to get back home at the same time hahaha!

    Inspiring me, woman!
