My Thoughts on Personal Style & How I Spend My Money on Clothes

Personal Style

What springs to mind when you think of the phrase ‘personal style’? To me I think about a person’s signature look. It’s when you see clothes or accessories and think I know who would love them. Personal style is when someone finds inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest or even the catwalk and tweaks it to their style rather than just copying it. It’s not something that is hugely impacted when the season and trends change. It’s when they make the season’s trend work for their every day look rather than working to fit into the most current trends.

So how important is personal style? I think it’s ridiculously important! It doesn’t matter what your style is, whether it’s head to toe Balmain or non-stop comfies and converse. It’s you and it’s what you like and that’s what important. I have read so many blog posts, magazine articles and heard people say you have to find your own personal style, but is ‘find’ really the right word?

I don’t think it is.

I think ‘embrace’ is a better word. We all already have our own personal style and it’s more about embracing and making the most of it. Only you know what you like, what you feel most confident and comfortable in. Plus, it will never stay the same, it will change and evolve and that’s good a good thing. Just as it’s ok not to fit into one type of style. It’s great to branch out and nail a variety of styles.

So, that leads me to how I spend my money on clothes and invest in my own personal style. You might have seen in my designer items for high street budgets post that I used to have a huge wardrobe selection that I loved when I was younger. Since then it’s gone out of the window a little bit; between growing up, having to adult and having regular wardrobe detoxes – I have a post all about those too. As much as I love having a good wardrobe clear out, it means I am usually left with very little to choose from. I decided when I had my last clear out a few weeks ago that I was going to change the way I shop a little bit.

I will be investing in quality staple pieces and basics that I will wear again and again. Things that can be worn season after season and don’t really change with the trends. I will also be looking to invest in some classic designer accessories that will enhance my outfits as I find things like handbags can be really versatile regardless of the latest trend.

That doesn’t mean you won’t see me shopping in the best high street stores! That’s where I will be heading to get all my trend lead pieces. Places like Zara, H&M, ASOS and even Primark are fantastic for buying current pieces as the trends and seasons change. Plus, you can get some fantastic designer dupes at the moment, which means I can test out pieces to see whether I really love them and if I wear or use them again and again. If I do, then I know I can look to invest in versions that are higher quality and will last me for years to come.
