How can my little baby boy be 3 months old already?! Everyone told me time would fly past, but I feel like it is going at lightning speed at the moment. I’ve decided I want to start sharing baby update posts, so that in years to come I can look back and remember all the little things he was doing. If you saw my life update post then you will know that we had a little bit of a rocky start, so I haven’t got any earlier updates, but I thought a 3 month update would be a good place to start!
Finley is around 13lb at the moment, in size 3 nappies and growing very quickly. He is in 3-6 month clothes and I don’t think they are going to last him much longer. I have started picking up a few bits in the next size already!
He is currently exclusively breastfed and feeding really well. If you read my breastfeeding experience, you will know we had a bit of a bumpy start, but it’s all going great now. He is growing well and I will carry on while it’s working well for both of us.
In the past few weeks Finley seems to have dropped one of his night time feeds. He now normally wakes up around 3am for a feed, after sleeping for 4 or so hours and he then goes straight back to sleep. However around 2 hours later he gets very fidgety and seems to struggle to sleep. He isn’t always hungry, just fussy and grumpy that he is not fully asleep. Hopefully, this is just a phase and he will get through this soon. (Since writing this, Finley has had some really rough nights, feeding every hour, waking frequently etc – I must have jinxed it!)
At the moment he also really fights nap time/bedtime. We are trying to get him into a little bit of a routine, but he struggles to self-settle. We are hoping to break through this bad habit soon with a few little changes. We have ordered a new black out blind, so hopefully getting the room really dark will help. We went for this Gro Anywhere portable blackout blind.
Like I said, we are trying to get into a good evening routine with a bath, feed, reding a book and then into bed by 8pm (depending on when he woke up from his last nap). He is awake for longer periods during the day now, but still having regular naps. Although when we are at home, I think he will need to start having naps upstairs soon, away from all the noise and bright lights.
I have caught Finley starting to roll side to side on his play mat now, so I don’t think it will be long until he rolls over. We have been showing him how to do it, to try and encourage him as much as possible. He has also started to giggle in the past week and we know what he finds funny. In the past few days he is also becoming a little bit more chatty and making different noises. He also loves to stand, his legs are really strong and will stand on our laps with some support, so I think he will love being in a jumperoo. He will also now reach out and grab the toys on his play mat or on his swing chair. Lastly, he has started teething in the past few weeks. He has two bottom teeth that are clearly on the move and possibly a third.
Wow that is quite a lot for such a little boy, but I want to be able to remember all these fun little things! He is changing so quickly and it’s exciting watching him grow and develop. I can’t wait to see what the next month has in store.
