Anyone who knows me will know that I love to go out and eat, try new food and find lovely new places to recommend to you all. When I came back from our holiday in Cyprus last year, I put a post together rounding up my top 3 restaurant recommendations in Paphos. I have since realised that I haven’t put together a post with my recommendations for Cardiff. I will admit, we eat out in Cardiff quite regularly. It’s so easy to get to, plenty of places to park and the choices are endless. Whether you live close to the area or you are visiting there are some great places I would recommend going to eat.
The Meating Place is located in Cardiff’s city centre on St Mary’s Street making it super easy to get to and only a five-minute walk from the train station or St David’s shopping centre if you are driving/parking. Their menu has quite a selection to choose from including their signature steaks, a selection of meat skewers, duck breast, salmon, lamb culets and more. Ryan has had the fish skewer before, which came with a selection of seabass, plaice, gilt head bream, cod, monkfish, Cornish sole and grey mullet. I however, would definitely recommend the chicken skewers; both were hung from the ceiling above our table. The interior is warm and cosy with exposed beams and candle lit tables, which creates the perfect intimate date night atmosphere. It’s so easy to forget that you are in Cardiff’s city centre; the hustle and bustle of the shops, bars and pubs just outside the front door seems non-existent.
It’s been almost 2 years since the Marco Pierre White restaurant hit the city centre of Cardiff. They have a wide selection on their menu from breakfast to dinner, however I would definitely recommend their prosecco afternoon tea. The steakhouse bar and grill is situated inside the Dominions Arcade on Cardiff’s Queen Street making it super accessible. It’s the ideal spot if you would like pop into town and do some shopping at the same time or have a catch up after work or on a weekend. Although it’s in the lively city centre, you would never know once your inside. Six floors up and it’s like being in your own serene little bubble.
Last and definitely not least is Society Standard; another independent bar and kitchen. They are just outside of Cardiff’s city centre and can be found on Whitchurch road. It’s easy to get to and there is on street parking outside. Their menu has a mixture of everything and definitely something for everyone. However, I can definitely recommend the steak (although their Sunday lunches also sound pretty delicious!).
I would highly recommend booking in advance for all of these restaurants and some can even be booked easily on Bookatable.
As I said before there are so many places to eat in Cardiff and these are just a few of my favourite places. However, a few other places that I have been recommended and can’t wait to try are The Classroom, The Potted Pig, The Clink and Got Beef. There are also lots of other nearby restaurants to choose from too!
Have you eaten out in Cardiff before? If so, where is your favourite place to eat or where would you like to eat? I would love to hear from you, so please leave me a comment below!
