Ok so first of all, I have to say that this was completely inspired by one of Hannah Gale’s posts. I was sat scrolling through Twitter one morning and saw her post pop up in my feed about crime dramas/thrillers and I thought what a bloody good idea! I absolutely love watching them and it’s probably the only thing I really watch on TV. So the thought of possibly finding a new one to watch was all very exciting for a Wednesday morning. As I am very much obsessed with finding new crime dramas to watch, I thought I would share my favourites with you all in case you are looking for something new. Definitely check out her post too as I would definitely recommend the ones she has suggested. I absolutely loved The Missing, Broadchurch and Happy Valley.
I’m not going to lie, this is one I just stumbled across on Netflix one day and instantly loved. I worked my way through all the seasons to find that a new season was about to be released. It also happened to be one of the best ones yet or at least I thought so. This series is all about a team of police officers who work for an anti-corruption unit. It’s one that leaves you on the edge of your seat and wondering what’s going to happen next. The older seasons are available on Netflix at the moment, but I don’t think the new season is available just yet.
Ok so this isn’t really on the crime side it’s more of a thriller/drama, but it’s a MUST watch! It’s all about Dr Gemma Foster played by Surrane Jones, whose life spirals out of control a little bit when she thinks her husband is cheating on her. This one left me shouting at the TV, texting my mum at the end asking how far she was, what she thought was coming next and how long we had until the next episode – we had a countdown each week. You can catch up with season 1 on Netflix and just as a pre-warning – it’s definitely binge worthy!
So obviously there is a bit of a running theme here – the more twisted and dark the better! The Fall was another series that I was hooked on from the first episode and it seemed to get better with each one. Gillian Anderson plays DSI Stella Gibson who works on a case involving a serial killer known as the Belfast Strangler. If you like crime dramas and thrillers then this is definitely one to watch.
This is a slightly older series that started back in 2009 with 4 seasons. I was a little late to the party on this one, but I thought it was really good. It’s not quite as gripping as something like Broadchurch, Luther or The Missing, but I would still say it’s definitely worth watching. It involves a new detective working on various murder cases.
So, last and definitely not least is Luther. This has to be one of the best programs I have ever watched. I was hooked on every episode and season. Each cast member is perfect for their role especially Luther and Alice. This one is all about DCI John Luther who works for a serious crime unit. It leaves you questioning all of your morals and views on things as you completely agree with every decision he makes, even though they may not be quite what you expect from a senior police officer. I think the filming for the another season has started and I cannot wait for it to be released, but you can catch up with this one on Netflix too or maybe Sky Box Sets.
What have been your favourite crime dramas or thrillers to watch? I’d love to hear your recommendations, so please leave a comment below.
I really liked Dr Foster, it was such a great series and everyone was tweeting about it when it was on which is when you know it’s a good series xx
Gemma • Gemma Etc . ❤️
I completely agree, everyone was talking about it! I even tried to avoid Twitter if I hadn’t seen the episode that night lol x
Oooh i’m a big fan of crime dramas! you need to watch how to get away with murder!
I have heard so much about How to Get Away with Murder! I have Netflix too, so I might start that soon! x
Oooo so glad I read this post as I’m looking for a new series to binge. I absolutely love Luther and I really want to watch Dr Foster but I’ve heard it can make you feel quite emotional and shout at the TV! I’m not sure I can cope with the frustration haha. I might try Line of Duty too as that sounds fab! x
Ha! You have heard correctly! Dr Foster is so good, but both my mum and I were shouting at the TV during season 1. It’s a stressful watch, but so good lol! Line of Duty is fab too and the seasons get better I think. x
I haven’t seen all of these, one programme that is literally the best thing I’ve ever seen is Prison Break oh my gosh it’s the best!

I started watching Prison Break (I think I have seen the first season) and then stopped watching it, but I have no idea why. It was so good, I think I need to start it again. x
Fab post! I love the Fall and Luther I might have to start the other 1s now x
Luther is my absolute favourite! I would definitely recommend the others though, if you are looking for something new. x
I love crime and drama programmes. Luther is my next one I think. I’ve heard so many good things about it just haven’t had the time to see any of it yet!
Definitely watch Luther, it’s one of the best programs I have watched!
The Fall and Luther are 2 of my favourites too! x
They are so good! Luther is definitely my favourite though lol x

I absolutely love Luther, it is so good! I haven’t watched NCIS though, maybe I need to add that to my list!
I’m a major fan of crime dramas and I’ve not actually watched ANY of these so they’re now all on my watch list xx
Oh perfect, they are definitely some good ones! x
I love TV crime dramas although my tastes seem to be more American than British – Criminal Minds is amazing, also Manhunter and American Crime Story. I am fan of The Fall though. Mr Grey is super creepy in it.
I haven’t watched any American ones in a while, but I do love them too! I might need to try Criminal minds. x
I absolutely loved Doctor Foster! I’m so angry about the ending though haha! I’ll have to check out the other ones!
