Mid-Week Eats at Turtle Bay – Swansea

Is there anything better to break up your week than a Wednesday date night? I think not.

After a long start to the week, we were lucky enough to head to the new Turtle Bay* restaurant in Swansea. You might have seen in My Week in Photos post a few weeks ago, that I had been to the launch party when it opened, so to head back down there to try out their full menu was super exciting! We love eating out and trying somewhere new is our favourite thing to do.

We took our typical approach to the menu and shared a starter so that we had room for dessert after…you can tell we have our fair share of experience in eating out.

We chose the duck rolls to start; with slow roasted shredded duck wrapped in a toasted flatbread. Cocktails were 2 for 1 until 7pm and it would have been a waste not to try some. We went for the ‘Roots Culture’ with Uncle Wray overproof rum served with strawberry purée, pomegranate syrup, lime & lemonade, although I had mine minus the rum as I was driving. It tasted just like the refreshers sweets I had when I was little, I loved it. There were so many cocktails to choose from, with different spirits and fruity flavours galore. Definitely perfect for any date night, girls night or celebration.

With a Carribean themed menu there were plenty of options to choose from with spice, heat and flavour throughout. If burgers are your thing there’s pulled pork, chicken, lamb, beef and mushroom and goats cheese to choose from. There is also the jerk pit BBQ including steak, babyback ribs, pork belly, lamb rump, chicken and more or the one pot specials with curries and marinated chicken as just a few to consider.

Ryan chose the Jerk Pit Salmon with coconut rice and creamy glaze. We loved that you could pick your own glaze (similar to steak sauce) either creamy, fruity or spicy based on your personal preference. It was quite warm, but full of flavour and Ryan really enjoyed. I decided to go for something from the light menu and had the pulled chicken wrap complete with sweet potato, Caribbean slaw and herb mayo. It definitely had some heat, but was perfect with the slaw on the side. I even swapped my fries for sweet potato ones, which are my absolute favourite.

Even though I chose from the light menu, I was still pretty full. Of course I soldiered on and we decided sharing a dessert was the best way forward. With no arguments we settled on the chocolate brownie within in minutes. It was warm, rich, chocolatey goodness and just what I needed on a Wednseday evening… or any evening to be honest.

We loved Turtle Bay, the staff were friendly and the service was really fast; probably one of fastest restaurants I have ever been to. If you are looking for a lively restaurant with spicy, but fragrant food and delicious cocktails on tap then Turtle Bay is the place to go.

Have you been to Turtle Bay before? Let me know in the comments what you thought.

I’ve noticed this little restaurant opened a few weeks back, I’m yet to go there but I’ve heard the cocktails are banging.
